Ralph, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, teacher, coach, and friend passed away November 22, 2017 at home. He was born on March 13, 1956 in Spangler, PA; graduate of Northern Cambria High School, 1974; graduate of Slippery Rock University, 1978. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Terri (Sybert); children, Jeffery (Kayla), Michael (KellyAnn), and Rebecka; grandchildren, Brinley, Bryce, Braxton, and Baby coming in January; siblings, Charles “Butch” and Mallory (Cattoi) Butterworth, Cynde (Butterworth) and Ray Laverick, Bob and Jackie (Lucci) Butterworth; half-sister, Elin (Butterworth) Steffey; in-laws, Jim and Marge (Westover) Sybert, Connie (Sybert) and Paul Tobey, Stacey and Sue (Sybert) Hutton, and Sam Pry. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, former and current students, players and co-workers. He is predeceased by his father, Charles Leonard; mother, Helen Margaret (Switzler); half-brother, Ben Butterworth; brother-in-law, Murray Steffey and Dan Yingling; sister-in-law, Lisa (Sybert) Pry. Ralph was a dedicated Health, P.E., and Drivers Ed Teacher, Junior High Girls Basketball Coach, Baseball coach, ‘Remembering Adam’ Advisor, SAPP Advisor, and a member of the Wellness Committee at Harmony Area School District, a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, a member of the PA Beekeepers Association, Med-Van driver, avid hunter, fisherman, and baker. Ralph influenced hundreds of lives through over 30 years of coaching and being active in the communities of Harmony, Northern Cambria, Purchase Line and Cambria Heights. He will be remembered for his kind and generous nature, infectious laugh, and chocolate chip cookies. A memorial service will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church in Northern Cambria at 4:30 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at Contres-Greer Social Hall from 6:00-10:00 PM on Thursday, November 30. At the request of the family, please bring a photograph or other memorial to place in a book of remembrance at the reception.
